President Bharrat Jagdeo last Friday allocated an additional $15M to the Georgetown municipality to continue its clean-up and beautification of the city for CARIFESTA X following a meeting with Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn and officials of the City Council.
Deputy Mayor Robert Williams said the meeting reviewed the works which have been done under the enhancement programme between the Ministry of Public Works and the municipality, works done separately by the municipality and what else needs to be done, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.
Williams said, according to GINA, that the main concern of the council was the need for fuel, additional trucks and overtime for workers to get the jobs done in time for the event.
The Deputy Mayor noted that works have been ongoing for a while around the city, including in Cemetery Road.
And following the meeting with the council, the President along with Minister Benn went to the East Bank of Demerara to inspect works in progress at Diamond and Craig under the purview of the Works Ministry in preparation for CARIFESTA X which is billed from August 22-31.
