Dear Editor,
I refer to Mr. Ivelaw Whittaker, , the PRO of the Guyana Police Force’s letter captioned “Robbery was properly investigated by the police” (08.08.08).
The PRO has conveniently omitted important information that I revealed in my letter to Inspector Charles.
The criminal was no “business associate” of mine as mentioned by the PRO but just an acquaintance who I referred some clients to as he claimed he is in a position to help them, and I was in no position to help them. When I discovered that he was a fraud, I threatened to report him to the Police Fraud Squad and then all my troubles began. I threatened to report him in writing.
This man was threatening my life in the police station and had two of his sidekicks waiting in his vehicle downstairs, what does the PRO want me to do?
Mr. Whittaker, what about the email threat that I received after leaving Guyana and which the police have in their possession?
It is a known fact that the Police in Guyana have a very outstanding record for not solving crimes and the Guyanese population knows what happens when they lodge reports at the Police stations.
Why did the PRO conveniently omit the name of a high Government official whose name was mentioned in the robbery by the bandits? Why haven’t the police interrogated this official? Is he above the law?
In his long letter to the press trying to cover up the police failure to arrest a named criminal, the Police PRO failed to explain why armed bandits would want to steal paper files, memory sticks, newspaper clippings etc.
He also failed to state that the bandits were courteous enough to hand me back my passport and pouch containing credit cards etc.
It was a clear case that whoever orchestrated this robbery wanted me out of the country.
I mentioned in my letter to Inspector Charles that during the robbery, the criminals made a phone call to their boss and said, “(name given), job finished”. One week passed and when they saw that I am not leaving, they came and shot up my office just after midnight.
There is only one person in Guyana that wanted me out of the country and I have provided the name of that person to the police. That person knows that I am a threat to his illegal operations. He knows that I am fighting for the rights of the people I referred to him.
The PRO stated that they could not find any incriminating evidence at the suspect’s home, now which criminal would keep incriminating evidence at his home?
This guy has many addresses and in time he will be exposed, not by me but by his victims.
When this criminal is exposed by his victims by the end of September 2008, I would like Mr. Whittaker to make a press statement on that. If the police cannot take action against this criminal, I will file private criminal charges and expose this matter internationally.
Yours faithfully,
Balwant Persaud
