Alonzo Greaves won the “Wheat Up” 65-mile cycle road race from Agricola to Loo Creek on the Soesdyke Linden Highway and back yesterday.
The race was sponsored by National Milling Company (NAMILCO).
Greaves, who finished second in last year’s event, won comfortably from Warren McKay who developed cramps and settled for second position.
Robin Persaud finished third with last year’s winner Junior Niles securing the fourth spot John Persaud fifth place and Jaikarran Sukhai sixth among the seniors.
Greaves also won four sprint prizes with Niles taking three and Darren Allen, McKay and Ian Jackson, one each.
Chris Persaud was the first junior to cross the finishing line with Enzo Mathews, second and Michael Nelson, third.
The consistent Kennard Lovell won in the veteran’s category from Virgil Jones and D. Ramnarine.
The winners in each category secured a trophy plus cash prizes while cash prizes were also awarded to the other top performers.
Organisers of the race Roraima Bikers Club also presented special prizes to three of their top performers with Royston Anderson capturing the senior prize, Michael Nelson (Junior) and Andy Spencer (Veteran).
Prizes were presented by Auto Lakeram – Finance Controller and Navin Ketwaru Accountant of NAMILCO.
The race attracted 35 starters.
