The Human Services Ministry is hosting a number of youth camps for vulnerable children in keeping with its “growing up without violence campaign.”
In a press release the ministry said the camps are also related to its campaign to eliminate all forms of violence against women and children.” The sessions will provide an opportunity for abused and other vulnerable youths to “release negative feelings associated with disaster or traumatic experiences and exercises to provide healing for deep hurts.” The programme will also disseminate information and knowledge for better understanding of self and for the development of social and life skills.
Specialised sessions have also been scheduled for parents and for girls who are survivors of sexual abuse, children of incarcerated parents and literacy and numeracy for the children of Tiger Bay. The programme is being conducted in all regions except eight and nine and is supported by UNICEF.
