General Manager of Guyana Beverage Company (GBC) Robert Selman yesterday urged the young members of the Fruta Conquerors Football Club to stay away from drugs and continue on their path of discipline.
Selman urged the members of the team, especially the young ones, to stay away from drugs while remaining disciplined on and off the field.
In a brief speech prior to the handing over of football gear and equipment to the club, Selman advised: “Drugs are of the devil and you need to have God in your life to walk away from the devil when he tempts you through your friends to use drugs. Be strong enough to walk away and not be persuaded.”
The beverage company GM also took the time to inform those gathered including Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Fruta Conquerors Ivor Thompson, a former national hockey player, vice president and secretary of Fruta Conquerors respectively Andrea Ash and Lavern Thomas, that this is the ninth year of his 12 years in Guyana that GBC has been partnering with the club and they have all intentions to continue doing so in the future.
“We are happy to partner with the club. From the first year, and this is the ninth year we are doing so, they have displayed a level of discipline not only on the field, but off of it as well. I have had the opportunity to sit in on some of their meetings, and as a club they have stuck to their plans and decisions agreed upon in those meetings,” Selman stated.
He further stated, “We are the first corporate entity in Guyana to have sponsored a football club, and I must say thanks to them for they not only made us proud on the filed with their performances and results, but they also made our product the Fruta brand of juices the number one selling juice here in Guyana and with this in mind, we are more than happy to give back to them in anyway possible.”
Meanwhile, the club received over $700,000 in gears, inclusive of 40 pairs of football socks, pants and boots and shirts respectively along with six balls, four goalkeeping outfits and gloves.
