Dominican Republic confirms
Free tickets for the upcoming Carifesta X celebrations will be made available from Monday, according to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony.
In his weekly briefing yesterday at the Carifesta Secretariat, he informed members of the local media that the tickets will be distributed at the Secretariat, as well as at other venues in Georgetown and in other regions. He said that over the weekend, a detailed ticket distribution plan will be unveiled to the general public. Tickets for the super concerts will however have to be bought. Six thousand free tickets will be available for the highly-anticipated Carifesta opening at the Providence stadium.
Dr. Anthony also told the media that the transportation aspect of arrangements has been settled. He said that the Secretariat has achieved its quota of minibuses and cars and stated that additional training for the drivers of these vehicles will be conducted today. The Minister also said that a Carifesta bus route has been mapped out for the event to facilitate the visitors and locals who wish to travel from one venue to another during the festivities. He said that the buses that will be traversing this route will carry special identification marks.
The Minister also stated that several Heads of State will be coming to Guyana to be part of the celebrations. They include the President of Suriname, Runaldo Ronald Venetiaan and the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.
The Carifesta Artistic Director, Dr. Paloma Mohammed said that even at this stage, countries are still communicating an interest in coming for Carifesta. She stated that on Thursday, the Dominican Republic confirmed the participation of twenty performers.
The addition of the Dominican Republic increases the number of confirmed overseas delegations to 32. The first of these delegations is expected to arrive on Tuesday.
She added that the preparations for the Opening Ceremony “Celegacy” continue to go well and said that it is scheduled to feature 3,328 performers, from both the local and overseas contingents.
