From time to time I’ve had to be critical of sections of our police force, heightened by my unhappy experience at the CID Headquarters, earlier this year.
Last weekend I made an overland trip to Suriname using the Moleson Creek ferry facility. In spite of an obvious shortage of staff and the lack of water in the toilet and other areas, the entire staff, at immigration/police station on the Corentyne performed with a high degree of professionalism.
The Transport and Harbours Department officer-in-charge was the essence of politeness and service to all concerned, an example of courtesy.
When I stood afar and looked on at the police/immigration and allied staff, I felt proud to be a Guyanese travelling. I got the impression that something good is happening at that location.
Our authorities should take note of these seemingly little things but which are important developments, because they show the high quality level of leadership that is present at this particular facility.
I hope the staff members are identified and given some recognition for their display of good conduct to the general public at a time when the force could do well to burnish its image.
