The proprietor of CNS 6, Chandra Naraine Sharma has won $250,000 damages and $40,000 costs in the high court in a libel suit brought against Mr Robert Persaud.
CN Sharma told Stabroek News that he had sued Mr Robert Persaud for libel claiming damages of $1,000,000 after he had said words which were defamatory in the course of a news broadcast on Channel 65 in the year 2000.
In the statement of claim it was said that the words were “calculated to disparage him in his profession as a television producer and television director and in his office as a political leader.”
The case was heard by Chief Justice Ian Chang, and Sharma was represented by Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes.
