Officers of the Joint Services last week spent two days deliberating on a variety of security-related matters which are relevant to their upcoming role during Carifesta X.
The Joint Services focus was on the provision of security at all venues to be used for the cultural event as well as maintaining law and order throughout the country, a press release from the Guyana Defence Force said.
The Joint Services wrapped up Phase Two of the security preparations at Camp Ayanganna with a Command Post Exercise (CPX). The preparations witnessed more than 80 officers, junior and sub-officers participating in a study day on day one followed by the CPX on day two.
The screening of hotels where visitors for Carifesta are likely to be accommodated, the policing of entertainment venues, the regulation of traffic in Georgetown as well as the safe transport of visiting delegations and others to and from ports of entry were all high on the security agenda.
And speaking at the closing of the two-day exercise, GDF Chief-of-Staff Commodore Gary Best noted that now that they had done the planning there must be the transference of related and relevant actions across the time spectrum and within the specified environs to make the plans viable. He cautioned that cognizance must be given to the fact that the on-the-ground situations were likely to have different evolutions in practice.
The release added that the security preparations would conclude with a tactical Exercise Without Troops (TWET) which would see ranks of the Joint Services doing evaluations of the various security scenarios that could arise at the different venues.
