At the conclusion of a terrific second day the top two countries Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago had extended their lead over Barbados and Guyana respectively in the annual quadrangular Goodwill Swimming Championships at the Castellani Swimming Pool.
Suriname, who ended the day with a score of 1075, led second-place Trinidad and Tobago by 80.5 points (993.5).
The Barbados Amateur Swimming Association, which trailled Guyana by 108 points after the first day is third with 518.5 points while hosts Guyana is in the cellar on 474 points.
Fourteen-year-old Linden Wickham was the best performer for Guyana yesterday. He struck silver in the Boys’ 13-14 100m freestyle event with a time of 1:00.16s behind Suriname’s Bjorn Lie Kwie (59.10).
Guyana gained three individual bronze medals through Aureyah Payne, Serrano Gonsalves and Alan Lowe.
It also gathered a silver in the Boys eight years and under 4x50m Medley relay and bronze in the Girls’ eight years and under 4x50m Medley.
Trinidadians Anthony Edwards and Romany Walter tied for first to set a new Goodwill record of 28.36s in the 15-17 50m backstroke event.
They eclipsed the previous record of 28.58s which was set by Suriname’s Marcelino Richards in 2007
