A minibus driver was yesterday placed on $200,000 bail for causing a chain of crashes when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The accused, Shawn Meaton of 475 West Ruimveldt, pleaded guilty to the charge of driving his minibus without proper maintenance and dangerous driving.
It is alleged that on the 14th of August, 2008, Meaton drove his bus, EGG 479, recklessly with its faulty brakes on the corner of Croal Street, where he collided with another minibus causing it to spark the other crashes.
The prosecution said from information gathered, Meaton was speeding on the northern side of Croal Street when he crashed into another bus which was stationed on the said street waiting for the traffic light to change. This caused the chain of collisions. Five other vehicles were said to have been damaged.
The matter is to continue on September 24.
