An interim injunction was yesterday granted against state television NCN Channel 11 from broadcasting the Olympics.
State television had broadcast footage of the games earlier this week despite an announcement by WRHM that it had the sole local rights for the broadcasting of the Beijing Olympics.
Yesterday, the Caribbean Media Corporation and WRHM tendered an ex parte application by way of affidavit for an interim injunction before Justice James Bovell-Drakes in Chambers. The plaintiffs succeeded in securing the interim injunction which bars NCN from “broadcasting or continuing to broadcast in any manner or from copying or transmitting or retransmitting NBC’s television broadcast signal which includes NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, USA and OXYGEN” for the 2008 summer Olympics.
The matter is returnable for August 27.
