Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) `A’ team was triumphant in the annual Queensway-sponsored Handgun shooting competition held on Sunday at the Timehri Rifle ranges.
They got the better of seven other teams in the one-day competition which attracted 24 shooters.
GNRA `B’ team placed second with the Guyana Police Force finishing third.
The top shooter of the day was Inspector Patrick Todd of the Guyana Police Force with Lavendra Luckiram of GNRA and Johan Da Silva of the GNRA placing second and third respectively.
The other competing teams were the Guyana Defence Force, Bank of Guyana Security, Beharry Security and Cops Security Service.
The shoot was conducted in three stages and at three different ranges starting with the 5 metre range shoot followed by 10 metres and then the 15 metres range, all under time restriction.
At the first stage GNRA team one comprising of Joseph Chin, Luckiram and Da Silva shot a perfect score 150 points out of a possible 150.
They were followed closely by the Police Team One comprising of Patrick Todd, Lancedale Withrite and Guy Nurse in second place with a score of 149 and the GNRA team two comprising of Aundrea Cambridge, Gordon Richard and Ryan McKinnon in third with 145 points.
At the 10 metre range, the GNRA team once again took top honours with a total of 286 points out of a possible 300 followed by Police team one with 267 points and the GDF team comprising of Colonel Hartley, Major Terry Stuart and Lieutenant Sooklall in third place with 261 points.
For the final stage shot at the 15-metre range in the spirit of the Olympics season competitors had a five-metre dash from the 20-metre line to the 15-metre line where they had to load two magazines of ten rounds each and engage their target in the kneeling position followed by a magazine change and engagement in the prone (laying down) position all under time restriction.
The GNRA team emerged victorious once again with 265 points out of a possible 300 followed by GNRA team 2 with 249 points and the GDF team with 221 points.
There was also a surprise falling plate shoot held for the participants of the competition and the GNRA shooters dominated with Aundrea Cambridge winning in fine style followed by Ryan McKinnon and David Dharry in second and third place respectively.
The Chief Range Officer (CRO) was Murtland “Chowmein” Smith assisted by Smallbore captain Dale Hing, Mohamed Qualander and David Dharry
The Queensway Cup is an annual event sponsored by Queensway and is intended as an event to bring together persons and organisations especially from the security sector and to promote the sport of handgun shooting in Guyana.
