A young man who allegedly had in his possession an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and another who allegedly accompanied him in a robbery were remanded to prison yesterday when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Twenty-one year-old Delon Matthews of 59 William Street Kitty who was charged with the unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm with four rounds of ammunition, as well as aggravated robbery pleaded not guilty, while Collin Brian of 60 William Street Kitty pleaded not guilty to the charge of aggravated robbery.
It is alleged that on August 17, Matthews and Brian robbed Imram Khan of a silver band, a silver ring, a silver chain and a cell phone, Jenelle Springer of a purse and another man of cash, all totalling $93,000.
Magistrate Hazel-Octive Hamilton refused Matthews bail in the firearm case since the prosecution stated that the arresting officers saw when the accused threw the pistol to the ground after taking it out of his waist.
The other charge of aggravated assault was transferred to Court 1 where Magistrate Priya Beharry refused bail and ordered that the two be remanded.
Matthews and Brian are expected to appear back in court on September 12 in relation to the robbery charge while Matthews alone was ordered back to court on December 16 in relation to the charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
