Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) inflicted a three-wicket defeat over the Barbados Combermere Secondary School when the two teams met in a 35 overs –a side encounter at the DCC ground, Queenstown, yesterday.
Much was expected of Combermere’s prolific batsman Kraigg Braithwaite, but the DCC bowlers had other ideas when they sent the Barbadians packing for a meagre 100 in the 35th over to which they replied with 101-7.
The 16-year-old Braithwaite, who was the most valuable player at the CLICO Invitational under-15 international tournament held earlier this year and Shane Jones, led their team’s batting with 21.
National under-19 opener Trevon Griffith turned up trumps with the ball to take 3-12 and along with Kester Hardcourt (2-11), did the damage for DCC who then saw skipper Denver Greaves (23* (2×6), Jermaine Horatio (19) and Troy Nurse 17 heep their romp to victory by three wickets and 6.4 overs to spare.
Roston Chase claimed 2-11 for Combermere whose under-15 side will now engage a Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) select under-15 team at the same venue tomorrow.
