Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton last week remanded to prison a Tucville man accused of robbery under arms committed on several persons.
Twenty-four-year-old Quince Simon Samnauth of 7C Tucville pleaded not guilty to three counts of robbery under arms when he appeared at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court.
The prosecution told the court that on March 17, Samnauth allegedly armed with a gun robbed Lee Singh of a gold band worth $150,000. He is also accused of robbing Jermin Carter of a shoulder bag and cash valued $840,500 and Llama De Leon of a cell phone, a gold band and a gold chain valued at $170,000, on the same day. The accused was said to have committed these offences in public view.
He also allegedly assaulted a police officer while being arrested. Samnauth was later charged and placed on $40,000 station bail and was ordered to report to the station. The police said the accused never reported.
In his address Samnauth’s attorney told the court that his client was on his way to uplift a police clearance to start employment when he was accused and arrested over the offences. He also refuted the police’s claim that Samnauth never reported to the station after he was released on bail as the man was granted clearance from the same station when he was supposed to be in custody there.
The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the accused may be a flight risk.
The magistrate remanded Samnauth since the issue of police clearance being granted when the accused was wanted is to be sorted out.
Samnauth was ordered to appear in court on August 29.
