The much anticipated laser lights show scheduled to be put on by the Austrian delegation as part of the Carifesta celebrations is yet to materialise.
On Sunday night, a sizeable crowd had gathered outside of the St. George’s Cathedral eagerly awaiting the lighting spectacle. However attempts to create the lighting show proved unsuccessful. According to reports, as efforts were being made to get the show underway some technical difficulties were experienced resulting in a key piece of equipment being damaged.
Nevertheless, the organisers are still optimistic that the spectacle will come off. Artistic Director Dr. Paloma Mohamed told this newspaper that plans for the laser show have not been scrapped. She said that those responsible have assured her that special efforts are being made to rectify the problems and if solved the show will come off before the end of Carifesta.
Efforts to contact the Austrian group for further comments were unsuccessful.
The show is expected to feature lights of various colours and intensities, which would be used to present messages and beautify the surrounding Cathedral. The spectacle was slated to run for the duration of the festival and was expected to be one of the major highlights of the 10-day event.
