A young man who allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman was placed on $50,000 bail yesterday when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Twenty-year-old Richard Cottoy of 87 Robb Street pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny.
The prosecution stated that last Saturday on Main Street while Ramona Nelson was walking Cottoy snatched her gold chain valued $33,000.
Cottoy’s father told Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry who presided over the case that his son was also charged with unlawful possession of narcotics.
Defence attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat told the court that after the alleged incident which Nelson had reported to the police, Cottoy was arrested and searched but no chain was found but he was kept in police custody since then. The lawyer then applied for bail for Cottoy.
This matter is to continue on October 1 while the unlawful possession of narcotics charge was transferred to Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton in Court Five.
