A young man who allegedly assaulted and wounded his stepmother was remanded to prison on Tuesday when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Alwin Clarke was charged with the offence of unlawfully and maliciously assaulting and wounding his stepmother.
The prosecution stated that on August 21 Clarke demanded some furniture and dishes from his stepmother and when she declined to hand them over he allegedly picked up a piece of wood and dealt her several lashes about her body. His stepmother afterwards reported the incident to the Timehri Police Station. Clarke was later arrested and charged with the offence.
Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry who presided over the case ordered that the accused be remanded and transferred the matter to the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
