Cougars Football Club (F.C) defeated Rosignol United at the Rosignol Community Development Centre (CDC) ground when the Berbice Football Association’s 2008 Coca Cola Senior League Tournament continued recently.
Cougars reinforced their position at the top of the points table by moving to 16 points with the 2 – 1 win over Rosignol United.
Rosignol drew first blood when Shawn Brutus scored in the 11th minute before George Simmons equalized in the 27th minute.
Two minutes before the half time whistle Cougars pounced when Winston Benjamin found the back of the net to give his team the lead at the conclusion of the first 45 minutes.
When play resumed, the teams matched each other with neither team managing to score within the final 45 minutes.
In the other match of the double header, New Amsterdam United gained a walkover from Rainbow Generation.
Over at the Mahaicony ground, Paradise Invaders drew 1- 1 with defending champions Monedderlust. Jamal Watts gave Monedderlust the early lead in the 23rd minute before Andrew Hutson equalized in the 45th minute.
No goal was scored in the second half even though Invaders played with 10 men for some time after Hutson was given a red card for striking an opponent.
Corentyne FC crumbled to a 0 – 2 defeat at the mercy of the home team Mahaicony United.
Mahaicony are now third on the points’ standings with 12 points after the victory over Corentyne where Sherwyn Caesar and Delbert Wilson scored in the 23rd and 68th minutes respectively.
Tomorrow action continues at the Number Five playfield with New Amsterdam FC taking on Paradise Invaders at 2pm and Monedderlust facing Mahaicony United at 4pm while Barzilla FC challenges Real Union FC at the Blairmont Settlement ground also commencing at 4pm. (KB)
