Transport Sports Club (TSC) and neighbours Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) registered victories when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Edward B. Beharry Champion Products-sponsored, second-division, limited-overs tournament was played over the weekend.
On Saturday, TSC defeated Georgetown Cricket Club by 84 runs at the Everest Cricket Club ground while MSC defeated Third Class at Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) ground and Ace Warriors at the Everest ground yesterday.
At Everest Cricket Club ground, an all-round performance from Travis Blyden, who made 36 and returned to scalp 4-14, guided TSC to their comfortable victory.
Mars Hinckson had earlier made 43 which included one six whilst Blyden struck three fours in his innings.
Terrence Poole chipped in with the bat scoring 30 as TSC made 181-8 from their 40 overs. Leg spinner Raphael Doodachand grabbed 5-16 for GCC who were then bowled out for 97 in reply. Only Ray Ramkissoon with 21 was able to offer resistance to Blyden who was supported by former national under-19 all rounder Kellon Carmichael with 2-32.
Across at the GYO ground on Saturday, MSC inflicted a five-wicket defeat on Third Class thanks to the bowling efforts of former national under-19 fast bowler Quasen Nedd who took 3-6.
Third Class, asked to take first strike, were bowled out for 110 in 26.1 overs with Permanand Persaud making 31 with three fours and two sixes. Khan with 23 which included two sixes and one four and Azeem Azeez who scored 20 with three fours and one six lent support.
Nedd with 3-6 received support from Shaquille Williams, 2-10, for MSC who reached 111-5 from 22.3 overs in reply with national under-15 wicketkeeper batsman Safraz Esau leading the way with 30 that included two sixes and the same amount of fours whilst Vishal Narayan made 27 (4×4).
Persaud returned to claim 2-20 whilst N. Hackim took 2-19.
MSC returned to the Everest ground yesterday where they defeated Ace Warriors by 64 runs.
Ace Warriors playing with 10 men, won the toss and sent their opponents to take first strike.
They were to regret that decision as openers Delvon Mc Ewan (45) and Vishal Narayan (50) posted 95 runs for the first wicket for MSC, who then lost four quick wickets to the bowling of left arm orthodox spinner Afzal Gafoor (4-26).
But a fifth wicket partnership worth 56 runs between national under-15 wicket keeper/batsman Esau who made an unbeaten 59 from 56 balls decorated with four fours, and Simeon Sam who faced 15 balls to compile 17 runs, steered MSC to 191-4 from their 40 overs.
In reply, Ace Warriors never got going, even though Gafoor (30) and Orendell Douglas added 53 runs for the second wicket.
They lost wickets at regular intervals against the bowling of Mc Ewan (3-9) and Williams (2-12) and, despite some big hitting from Roger Aaron whose 17 included two mighty sixes, they were never in the hunt and folded for 127 in 34.4 overs.
Dellon Azore also chipped in with 14, but his effort was in vain as the MSC slow bowlers kept the newly formed club in check on a wicket that was keeping low.
