The Cotton Tree, West Berbice businessman who died after a fight with a teenager on Monday suffered multiple stab wounds, a post mortem examination said.
Dereck ‘Ochro’ Mangal, 43, sustained wounds to his throat, back and abdomen in a brawl with the teen after which he ended up in a trench near his home and the teen had fled the scene. Mangal reportedly crawled out of the trench and sat on a bench outside his stationery store where he bled to death. Police later retrieved the murder weapon, a knife, from the canal.
Mangal’s wife of 25 years, Ivorene Dukhia said she and her 14-year-old daughter Lisa had travelled to Georgetown and upon returning home around 1.45 pm she saw a crowd at the front of her home.
She observed her husband in a sitting position with blood-drenched clothing and he appeared to be dead.
She then learnt that he had been involved in a fight with a teenager.
This newspaper understands that Mangal, a father of two daughters, one of whom is married, might have rebuked the teen for “interfering” with Lisa.
