Narsingh Deonarine’s XI defeated Sewnarine Chattergoon’s XI in the second of three trial matches organized by the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) to select a team to represent the county in the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL)-sponsored El Dorado Inter-county 50 overs competition.
In the game which was played at the Port Mourant ground recently, Skipper Chattergoon won the toss and asked Deonarine’s XI to take first strike and reached 190-3 in 45 overs with Ranga Lachigadoo top scoring with a well played 74.
Lachigadoo and former Guyana and West Indies under-19 opener Richard Ramdeen who made 65, posted 133 for the second wicket after their side tottered at 2-1. Skipper Deonarine and fellow national player Gajanand Singh with 20 and 13 respectively then featured in an unbroken 31 runs partnership to see the team to its eventual score of 190-3.
Bowling for Chattergoon’s XI, off spinner Devon Clements who recently returned from a successful stint in Trinidad and Tobago picked up 2-25 while pacer Kwesi Maltay took 1-11.
In reply, Chattergoon’s XI could only reach 162-8 in their 45 overs with national under-19 middle order batsman Jonathan Foo leading the way with 44. Farouk Hussein was also among the runs with 33 while Seon Hetmyer, another national under-19 middle order batsman, chipped in with 26, posting 69 runs for the fifth wicket with Foo.
Bowling for Deonarine’s XI pacers Keon Joseph, who was undoubtedly the fastest bowler in the recently concluded West Indies/TCL under-19 tournament in Barbados, and Yougendra Harrinarine along with off spinner Munilall Shivdyal took three wickets each.
