The Private Sector Commis-sion (PSC) has given kudos to members of the joint services for “bringing to an end the criminal career” of Guyana’s most wanted, Rondell ‘Fineman’ Rawlins and his accomplice, Jermaine ‘Skinny’ Charles.
In a press release the commission said that an “extremely dangerous” criminal enterprise has “been seriously weakened by the removal of Rawlins as its leader…”
It said it was critical for the security forces to remain resolute in their pursuit of the remaining members of the gang and “all other heavily armed and organised criminal enterprises which continue to pose a threat to the nation’s stability.” It was noted that approximately half of the weapons stolen from the Guyana Defence Force remained unrecovered and this was a matter for considerable concern. “It continues to be a source of major concern to the commission that the majority of the Rawlins gang [was] very young members of our community, seemingly readymade to be murderers and bereft of any form of decency,” the release said. Meanwhile, President Bharrat Jagdeo was commended for the initiative he took in convening the National Stake-holders Meeting, which “served as an extremely valuable forum for facilitating a national dialogue on matters of security and the maintenance of the rule of law.” The commission urged that the meetings be continued and develop into strong contributory mechanism to serve as a national advisory body for the overall good of the country. A call was issued to the government and other political parties to recommit themselves to a bipartisan approach to the matter of national security.
The PSC also called on the government to immediately confirm the position of Commissioner of Police.
