Patrick Prashad continued his winning ways when he secured victory in the Machinery Corporation of Guyana (Macorp) 15th Anniversary Medal Play golf tournament last Saturday on a lush Lusignan Golf Course.
Playing off a seven handicap, Prashad had the best gross score of 76 on his way to victory beating a field of 33 golfers, the largest turnout so far this season.
Ian Gouveia secured the second position and had the best net score of 67 while Esau Shamsudeen copped the third position in recording a net 69.
Joann Deo topped the female competitors with the best net of 78.
Macorp’s Chief Executive Officer Jorge Madina won the prize for the longest drive while Mike Guyadin claimed the award for being closest to the pin.
Madina, in handing over the sponsorship cheque to Mel Sankies, president of the Lusignan Golf Club, expressed his company’s commitment in promoting golf locally.
He said Macorp had supported golf since its establishment in Guyana 15 years ago and will continue to do so in the future.
Madina called for greater stakeholder involvement as he had saw golf as a vehicle which could support the local tourism industry.
According to Madina, the company is also fulfilling its mandate “Let’s build Guyana Together,” which is at the forefront of its 15th Anniversary celebrations.
Newly-appointed captain of the LGC, Jerome Khan, said the tournament was exciting and showered praise on Macorp for the many prizes awarded and tokens presented to the participants including caddies.
Macorp Marketing Assistant Esther Hinds presented the prizes. Also in attendance was the company’s Product Support Manager Orlando Chacon.
The LGC also hosted the nine-hole Greensome tournament last Sunday which attracted 46 participants while close to 200 persons attended the fund-raising Lunch and bar-b-que.
Special prizes were awarded for the best Long Drive, the best Chipping as well as the best putt.
Joann Deo copped the prize for the best putt, while Pikay Kumar carted off the long drive and chipping prizes.
Meanwhile, more golfing action is carted for Saturday starting at 12:30 hours.
Golfers will compete in the Continental Group of Companies sponsored tournament and again another large field is expected.
Registration will close at noon on Friday and players are reminded to register by calling the Club at 220-5660.
