A man who allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend was placed on $15,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Forty-year-old Kurt Yee of 37 Barima Avenue, Bel Air Park pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawfully and maliciously assaulting and wounding Pamella Persaud causing her bodily harm.
The prosecution stated that on August 31 Persaud went to Yee’s Bel Air home to discuss their relationship and an argument started. It was further stated that Yee asked Persaud to leave and when she refused he reportedly started pushing her out of the yard and while doing this his fingernails scratched her face.
However, Yee’s attorney said that it was because of the fatal attraction that Persaud had for her client that led to the whole situation. She went on to say that on the day in question, Yee was at home when Persaud went to visit. He did not wish to get into a conversation with Persaud and told her to leave. Persaud refused and allegedly started using indecent language which brought the landlord out into the yard. Yee’s attorney went on to say that her client attempted to put Persaud out of the yard but he never assaulted her. The defence attorney then applied for bail.
The prosecution did not object and the magistrate subsequently granted $15,000 bail and ordered Yee to return to court on October 14.
