An East Ruimveldt man who allegedly had in his possession an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Twenty-two-year old Carl Anthony James pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
It is alleged that on September 3 in Georgetown, James had in his possession one .45 pistol and one live round of .45 ammunition.
Attorney-at-law Vic Puran stated that his client was apprehended in relation to another offence and the present charge comes to him as a surprise. The defence attorney then applied for bail.
The prosecution objected to bail and Magistrate Octive-Hamilton ordered that James be remanded to prison. He will return to court on December 5.
