Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud and a contingent from the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) will be highlighting the agriculture sector at an agri-business forum in Canada.
In a press release the GMC said Persaud is expected to deliver the feature address at the Agri-Business Investment Opportunities Seminar and Mini Exhibition on September 27 in Toronto, Canada. The GMC is organising the event in collaboration with the Guyana Consulate in Toronto. According to the release the minister has repeatedly said that Guyana’s advantage in exporting other crops and livestock to the Caribbean and beyond should be marketed. In keeping with this Persaud and a team will be meeting in Toronto with representatives of several companies to discuss the pursuit of potential business ventures here.
The release said Persaud was also invited to participate in the McGill Conference on Global Food Security planned at McGill University in Montreal on September 24-26. He is expected to deliver a brief address regarding Guyana’s progress towards food self sufficiency and security at the Conference.
The release noted that on March 29 Guyana launched the ‘Grow more’ food initiative intended to increase food production and enhance efficiency at all levels of the production chain. There has also been “tremendous growth in Guyana’s non-traditional agriculture sector” which has attracted an increasing number of investors because of its location, friendly business climate and available markets, it added.
