The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will decide in another few days whether Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys returns to the bench following extensive deliberations among its members on the shooting incident in which he was involved with a member of the police force two months ago.
While the Director of Public Prose-cutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack had recommended that no charges be laid against Gilhuys due to deficient police statements, the JSC is likely to examine a range of issues including the Magistrate’s conduct, and its effect on the position he holds.
Stabroek News was informed that the DPP’s review of the case is also likely to carry some weight in the JSC deliberations; and that Magistrate Gilhuys, who proceeded on leave to facilitate the investigations, may have to appear before the JSC during its deliberations. (See other story on page 10.)
