Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday remanded a 21-year-old man who allegedly abducted a female under the age of 18 to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
Shoab Mohamed of Hibernia, Essequibo Coast pleaded not guilty to the charge of abduction when it was read to him.
It is alleged that on July 6 Mohamed took the 15-year-old girl out of the possession of her father with intent to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her. After the charge was read the magistrate invited Mohamed’s lawyer, Vic Puran, and the prosecution to approach the bench where certain sensitive issues of the case were discussed.
When asked by the magistrate what his intentions were Mohamed said that he “wanted to make a life with that girl” and was willing to marry her when she came of age. The girl is to attend court today so that her side of the story can be heard.
The accused has been remanded to prison and is to return to court this morning.
