BK International Western Tigers Devon Millington cannoned four stunning goals to lead his team past Beacon United in the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Banks DIH First-Division League at the Banks DIH ground, Thirst Park on Wednesday evening.
Beacons lost 1–6 in the feature match of the double header that had Thomas United and Northern Rangers in the curtain raiser.
Millington’s night began when he blasted one in from on the left flank 3 yards outside the 18-yard box in the 30th minute. He then brought up his double ten minutes later when he thumped an easy ball past Beacon’s substitute goal keeper.
The first 45 minutes was dominated by Western Tigers as they concluded 4-1 but such a comfortable lead would not have been possible if it were not for the brilliant box work done by the Western custodian Peter Miggins.
Play resumed with Western on top and they pushed even harder coming down to regulation time.
Millington was stopped numerous times for being offside as he was often in runaway position where he alone challenged the goal keeper.
However, he finally scored in the 86th minute to bring up his hat-trick but that was not all as he got his helmet-trick two minutes later when he displayed his dribbling skills to make mince meat of the custodian, thereby delighting the spectators.
Nedd Fraser drew first blood for Western Tigers when he successfully challenged Beacon’s custodian and won in the 10th minute. They then extended their lead further in the 17th minute when Beacon’s custodian miscued a ball he dived for and Edison Fraser helped it over him and into the back of the net to go up 2–0.
Beacon were rewarded with a gift in the 18th minute when Miggins forced a defence error that caused them to concede a goal after he failed to firmly secure a ball fired between his uprights. It rolled through his legs and made it over the goal line even as he dived in vain to save it. Thomas United carted off a 2-1 victory over Northern Rangers in the curtain raiser of the evening.
Meanwhile, Leroy Griffith and Raulston Heyliger were the two successful goal scorers for Thomas United, scoring in the 18th and 28th minute respectively, while Brent Camacho thumped in one in the 57th minute for Northern Rangers.
