The president and executives of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) have joined the list of persons who have sent congratulatory messages to Guyana and West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul on being named the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricketer of the Year.
“The Demerara Cricket Board is joyfully pleased to offer its congratulations to our cricketing hero Shivnarine Chanderpaul on being named Cricketer-of–the-Year and on becoming the first West Indian player to claim a major prize at the International Cricket Council awards.”
The DCB also expressed deep admiration and love to the outstanding Guyanese and West Indies cricketer who has kept the honours of the country and region proudly high in spite of the current poor standing of the West Indies amongst the cricketing nations.
It certainly is also a signal honour for Chanderpaul as a Guyanese to be the winner of the award named after Sir Garfield Sobers.
While Chanderpaul’s award is based on his performance on the field during the last year, the DCB acknowledges the talent, tenacity, selflessness and commitment that the Guyanese left- handed batsman has displayed during his career.
“This is an example that our youths and people should emulate in their daily lives,” the statement from the DCB said.
The president, executives and members of the DCB and on behalf of the proud nation, offered congratulations to Shivnarine Chanderpaul and pray that he will continue with his fine example of achievements on and off the field.
