The Rose Hall Town Metro female cricket team on Saturday continued their dream debut in the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) Under-15 competition when they took first innings points from Courtland Cricket Club.
Led by a brilliant all-round performance from national female player Treymane Smartt, the team recorded its third successive first innings points victory against an all-male team.
Batting first at the Area ‘H’ ground, Courtland Cricket Club were bowled out for 122 with Carl Hogien making 20 while Gavin Hughes and Jermine Cort offered support with 19 each. Smartt, bowling offspin took 4 for 23 while national fast bowler Erva Giddings took 2 for 13 and Nikita Toney 2 for 31.
In reply, Rose Hall Town Metro led by Smartt’s top score of 27, reached 135 for 3 when the match was called off. Guest players Dominic Rikhi, who is a current member of the Berbice under-17 inter-county team, and Lionel Lewis both made 22 each.
National player Shermaine Campbell was unbeaten on 24 while another Berbice player, Jackie Singh, was unbeaten with Campbell at the close on 22. The pair added 34 runs for the fourth wicket that helped to take their team to first innings points.
The Metro Female Cricket team is the first female team to play in any male cricket competition in Guyana and has proven to be competitive. The team is however playing with two male under-16 guest players in Rikhi and Lewis and were not awarded points won from the matches they have contested.
