With 17 games from Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final Winston Stevens and 16 from team-mate Rudolph Collins, Titans emerged as the true “Titan” when the Burchmore Philadelphia Memorial dominoes competition came to a close Wednesday last.
The competition, played at the Clerical and Commercial Workers Union (CCWU) Hall, Quamina and Waterloo streets, saw 18 teams participating.
Kojac dominoes team which did not make it to the final three had the incentive of marking the most games, 92, but Titans proved that they were the team to beat.
In the final contested between Titans, Kings Jewellery World and Guyana Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU) a seesaw battle ensued.
Titans, however, when the games were over, walked away with the $35,000 first prize and the Sandys Funeral Home trophy.
Meanwhile, Kings Jewellery World had to settle for the $20,000 second prize and a trophy donated by New York-based Nigel De Freitas.
And GAWU, who ended up in the cellar, was rewarded with $12,000 and the Water- chris Hotel trophy.
Steward of the competition Rudolph Collins speaking to Stabroek Sport said that the competition was run off in an excellent atmosphere and no animosity was displayed by any of the teams or players throughout the competition.
Carlton Cato was the “Love Bird” of the final.
