BCBC Special Events committee honours past members

The Special Events Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) took some time out during the Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) and Port Mourant clash in the Busta Champion of Champions 50 overs-a-side final yesterday to honour five members whose sterling contribution to cricket helped with the development of the game in the county, under its Tribute to Heroes programme.

Those honoured in the form of a plaque which indicated their specialty, were Carl Moore, who served as secretary of the BCBC from 1981 to 2007; Mortimer George, (who wore many hats including that of honorary secretary from 1975 to 1983, Berbice county selector 1968 to 1975) and chairman/cecretary of the competitions committee from 1968 to 1985 and assistant secretary 1968 to 1975); veteran groundsman Seelochand Singh; former president Malcolm Peters (2003 to 2007) and veteran umpire Rafik Latiff (1974 to present).Prior to the presentation of the plaques, vice-president of the BCBC, Mark Lyte, thanked the awardees for their sterling contribution and encouraged them to continue working with the BCBC to further develop the game of cricket in the Ancient County. “It is indeed a great pleasure to be associated with the BCBC and stand here as we recognize the contributions of these gentlemen. Thanks to them, the efforts they have put into the development of the game is being enjoyed today by the present crop of players here in Berbice and I want to urge them to continue working with the BCBC as we seek to improve the development of the game in the County,” Lyte said.
