A Norton Street man who allegedly stole a gold and diamond chain and cell phones from a woman was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Twenty-seven-year-old Richard Craigan of 38 Norton Street, Lodge pleaded not guilty to simple larceny.
It is alleged that on September 8 at Georgetown, Craigan stole from Nicole Jordan a gold and diamond chain and two cell phones, totalling $300,000 in value.
Representing Craigan, Attorney-at-law Paul Fung-A-Fat said his client had been in police custody since last Tuesday and he was only able to see him yesterday. He said further that no identification parade was carried out for Craigan to be held that long and it was against the law for the police to uplift fingerprints before his client was arrested. The defence attorney then applied for bail.
However, the prosecution stated that Jordan’s car was dusted by fingerprint experts and the ones that were uplifted matched Craigan’s and it was because of the match that he was arrested. The prosecution said also that Craigan has a case pending for possession of ammunition.
Magistrate Robertson-Ogle then ordered that Craigan be remanded to prison. He has to return to Court Two on September 22.
