The inaugural Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC)/ Demerara Bank Limited (DBL) sponsored 40-overs-a-side second division cricket competition will commence this weekend with 19 first round matches scheduled to be played.
This competition is being held to commemorate the opening of the Corriverton branch of Demerara Bank, and is being contested by some 42 teams from as far as Corentyne River and Crabwood Creek through to Whim in eight geographical zones.
Teams will contest each other on a round robin basis with the top teams in each zone squaring off in the quarter finals.
Seven of the eight zones will commence action this Saturday, with Young Royal and Crabwood Creek meeting at Crabwood Creek, while Unity will face Skeldon Community Center at Skeldon and Number 69 Vikings taking on Number 65 A at Number 69 in Zone B action.
In Zone C, Scottsburg United and Kim Il Sung will clash at Scottsburg, Number 72 Cut and Load will take on their All Star counterparts at Number 72 and Number 73 Young Warriors and Strykers will clash at Number 73.
In Zone D, Number 70 MYO will play host to Number 71, Number 70 Lalman and Number 70 Young Blood will meet at Number 70.
In Zone E, Number 69 Original and Number 59 will clash at Number 65, Number 64 Fighting Marines and Number 55 Mayflower will meet at Number 64, with Number 60 and Number 64 Moonmen facing each other at Number 60.
Action will continue in Zone F, with Number 52 Survival and Number 58 Swing Star clashing at Number 52, Number 48 Cavaliers playing host to Number 50 Young Guns and Number 47 Pioneer and Number 45 clashing at Number 47.
Finally, first round action will continue in Zone G with Kennard’s Memorial taking on Young Star at Bush Lot Farm and Number 43 Scorpion and Young Adventurers going head to head at Number 43 with Yakusari Caribs drawing the bye in this zone.
