Preparations have commenced for the staging of the 19th annual Kashif and Shanghai (K&S) invitational football tournament which is set to launch on October 30 with the first match kicking off on December 17.
According to a press release, the K&S organization “was in the process of preparing for their customary engagements with their valued partners in the public and private sectors whose roles over the years have ensured the continued success of the tourney.”
Sixteen teams will be invited to participate in this year’s tournament and are to be named on October 28.
They will come from various sub associations such as Linden, Georgetown, East Coast, West Demerara, Berbice, Bartica and possibly an interior team.
The release said the criteria for selection was solely based on the top teams from the respective sub associations and entirely on judging from all football tournaments contested during the year with these sub associations.
The K&S Organization whose pre-tournament publicity is built around “Youth participation in constructive recreation and providing support for the National HIV/AIDS Prevention Campaign” are also continuing its efforts to secure a higher level of participation in the tournament by teams from the interior region, the release stated.
Added to that, they (K&S) have identified entities in both the public and private sectors which they feel can support them in achieving that objective, the release continued.
This unusually early announcement is to alert the football community (players, clubs and officials) and fans to begin their preparations in their respective ways for the event and they would also like to alert the Guyana Football Federation for their necessary role in sanctioning of the event, the release ended.
