Ministry calls on communities to rescue children from abuse
In commemorating this year’s Child Protection Week commencing tomorrow under the theme “Every Citizen a Child Protector”, the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security is urging members of the community to take action and rescue a child from abuse.
The focus will also be on raising the level of awareness of child abuse by highlighting the plight of children who are abused and neglected, the ministry stated in a press release.
And during the week, a number of walk-about exercises and mini-rallies would be conducted in communities throughout the country encouraging individuals and groups to speak out, to report incidences of abuse and to keep reporting until action is taken and to work with the Social Services Department.
Over 120 countries are said to observe Child Protection Week annually. It was first observed here in 2004.
There will also be several media programmes and a symposium at the National Library along with a large rally on Friday at the National Park to conclude the week’s activities.
