Reports made by a Mahaicony Rice Mill employee of a robbery of $1.3M are false, a police press release said yesterday.
The sales representative had on Friday reported that he was robbed at Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice when he made a stop in the area as he was heading to Mahaicony. He had said that two men who were in a blue pickup – one with a knife and the other with a crowbar – had set upon him and taken away the money.
The release said however that the sales representative has now changed his story. He told the police that he stopped at Bush Lot to eat lunch at a restaurant and left the money in his motor vehicle. Upon returning to the vehicle the money was missing.
The man is in police custody assisting with investigations, the release stated.
