Young Warriors defeated Colombia Sports Club by 10 wickets in the Guyana Softball League (GSL) organized Memorex Enterprise 15-overs-a-side softball tournament held at the Cullen Sports Club Ground last Sunday.
Colombia Sports Club posted 160-7 from 15 overs after batting first and, in reply, Young Warriors, led by Khalid Baksh and Sudesh Dyal who were left unbeaten on 100 and 55 respectively, reached 161 without loss in 11 overs.
Electronics XI then gained a walkover from Hibonia Sports Club who failed to show up for their encounter which was set to commence at noon.
In the Essequibo zone of the tourney, Die Hard XI won the toss and batted making a massive 220-9 in 15 overs at the Perseverance Ground.
Yassir Khan (59) and Anthony Narine (48) were the top scorers while Mervyn Pearson bagged 3-27 for Reliance. In reply, Reliance made a spirited effort but fell way short at 135-8 in their allotted 15 overs.
Young Guns batted first in an encounter against Richmond Youths and scored 123-6 from 15 overs. Ramnarine Subjat top scored with 56 while Sheldon Monroe took 2 – 2 7 for Richmond Youths, who, in reply, reached 128-3 from nine overs with Sugrim Bahiram scoring an unbeaten 42.
United Brothers Sports Club battered Cullen Sports Club by 49 runs after they batted first and posted a huge total of 195-7 from 15 overs. United Brothers then routed Cullen Sports Club for 146-7 to claim victory.
Over at the Den Amstel Ground, Hyde Park XI defeated Cornelia Ida Invaders by 74 runs. Batting first, Hyde Park scored 158- 9 from 15 overs mainly upon the contributions from Dhaniram Lalleram (45) and Alim Mohamed (30).
Riaz Misir picked up 2-24 for Cornelia Ida Invaders, who, in reply were dismissed for 84 from 10.2 overs.
Altaf Alli top scored with 32.
Hyde Park XI in their second match made light work of Shattazville defeating them by 94 runs.
Hyde Park XI again won the toss and batted rattling up a massive 198-5 from 15 overs.
Dinesh Lalleram (64) and Gibran Mohamed (56) were the outstanding batters.
Shattazville, in reply, only managed to get 104 runs in 14.5 overs.
Warriors XI got the better of Den Amstel XI by 14 runs in a very competitive match. Warriors XI batted first and scored 134-8 with Asif Ahmad chalking up a solid 54. In reply, Den Amstel lost their way in the last three overs and could only muster 120-6 with Errol Joseph left unbeaten on 37.
Rangers XI got the better of La Jalousie Estate by 25 runs at the Windsor Forest Ground. Rangers batted first and scored 116 all out in 14.5 overs and, in reply, La Jalousie Estate made 91 all out in 13.5 overs.
Leonora Youths batted first against Leonora and scored 134 in 15 overs as Mukesh Balgobin grabbed 3-19 while Windsor Forest XI in reply were bundled out for 43 in 9 overs, Rakesh Singh claimed 3-4 from three overs and in their second match Leonora Youths got a walkover from Michael XI.
In other results, Feroz XI thrashed Banks DIH XI by seven wickets at the Providence Stadium. Banks DIH XI took first strike and made 99-7 in 15 overs while Feroz XI made 101-3 in10.1 overs in reply.
In Feroz XI’s second match they defeated Street Boys XI by five wickets. Street Boys XI batted first and set a winning target of 161. Feroz XI rose to the challenge and reached the target with 1.5 overs left, led by an unbeaten 66 from Chris Ramshaw.
