According to president of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association, Affeeze Khan, the delegation, which comprised boxers and table tennis players along with the chef-de-Mission Dr. Karen Pilgrim and the coaches, was very well received.

Also accompanying the delegation was boxing official Rudolph Torrington who is not a member of the Commonwealth Games team.

The Prime Minister was given a bit of background information on the games itself while Khan spoke of the training of the amateur boxers.

The Prime Minister responded by giving the team words of encouragement. He also responded to Khan on the issue of the difficulties faced by athletes from less privileged circumstances and expressed approval that those athletes had chosen to get into sports which effectively kept them away from  nefarious pursuits.

According to Khan, Hinds wished the entire team well adding that he hoped the team would acquit itself well.

The Guyana team is due to depart Guyana on the morning of October 8 for New York.  They will then leave New York for Mumbai, India where they are scheduled to arrive on October 9 at 10.15pm.

The official opening ceremony of the Games will take place on October 12 with the closing ceremony set for October 18.
