Hostile fast bowling by former national under-19 fast bowler Shevon Marks led Rose Hall Town Bakewell ‘A’ to a crushing 10-wicket victory over Nigg in a third round match of the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC)/New Building Society (NBS) sponsored, second-division tournament recently.
Marks had the remarkable bowling figures of 8 -29 off eight overs as Nigg, who were invited to take first strike, were bowled out for 62 in 16 overs on a placid Rose Hall Town Area ‘H’ pitch.
Only Brian Narine with a top score of 17 had any answer to the pace of Marks whilst extras contributed a healthy 16.
Off spinner Mahendra Srikissoon supported Marks with 2-8.
In reply, Berbice under-19 opener Michael Felix with an unbeaten 36 and former Berbice under-19 opener Micheal Rengasami with 22 not out, hit off the required runs in eight overs as RHT Bakewell ended on 65 without loss.
Over at the Warren Cricket ground, the Rose Hall Town Bakewell ‘B’ Development team defeated Kendall Union by 27 runs thanks to some fine spin bowling by 15-year-old off-spinner Mark Fernandes and 13-year-old leg-spinner Shawn Perreira.
The RHT Bakewell ‘B’ team is a development team comprising eight under-15 players and two females as Rose Hall Town Youth Sports Club (RHTYSC) continues its policy of preparing youths for the future.
Batting first after winning the toss, RHT Bakewell ‘B’ team reached 125 for 8 off their allotted 35 overs in a heavily-grassed outfield with Public Relations Officer of the RHTYSC Moonish Singh top scoring with an attractive 36, while Stephen Lewis and Dominic Rickey supported with 20 each.
Bowling for Kendall Union, Trenton Garnett took 3-20 but on their turn at the wicket, they found the spin duo of Fernandes and Perreira too much to handle and were bundled out for 98 in 29 overs.
Only Suresh Ramlochan 28 and Danny Baker 17 offered any resistance to the bowling of Fernandes who took 5 -23 from eight overs and Perreira 4-14 from seven overs.
