A twenty-three-year-old man who allegedly had carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 15 years was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Anthony Melville of Kwakwani Waterfront was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Melville’s lawyer applied for bail on his behalf on the grounds that the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court has sittings once every two months which meant that his client could be incarcerated for a while until his court date.
However, the prosecution objected to the bail request stating that Melville was a regular visitor to the young girl’s home and after he had committed the act he allegedly threatened to kill her.
Magistrate Robertson-Ogle then ordered that Melville be remanded to prison and that he appear again in court on October 17.
