Dear Editor,
Some months ago I suggested to your Business Page columnist, Mr.
Christopher Ram, that he should write an article on the possible effects of a U.S. recession/depression on Guyana’s economy.
Unfortunately Mr. Ram did not share my concerns at that time.
I wonder if he might now be persuaded to address the impending global economic downturn, with reference, for instance, to the impact on local remittances, a reduced US drugs trade demand, the tourism industry, investments by local insurance companies in failed US financial institutions, and the possibility of layoffs in businesses here.
Yours faithfully,
Clairmont Lye
