Guyana’s junior Commonwealth representatives leave for India

The 12-member Guyana junior Commonwealth team yesterday departed for Pune, India to participate in the third Commonwealth Youth Games.
The team comprising boxers Akeem Alexander, Stefan Gouveia, Herlando Allicock and Cleveland Rocke and table tennis players Trenace Lowe, Michelle John, Nigel Bryan and Ambrose Thomas along with Chef-de-Mission Dr. Karen Pilgrim, and coaches Carl Franklyn, Terrence Poole and Linden Johnson departed yesterday morning for New York.
Accompanying the team is president of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association Affeeze Khan.
From New York the team will fly to Mumbai, India where they are scheduled to arrive at 10.15pm tonight after which they will travel to the Game Village in Pune.
The official opening ceremony of the Games will take place on October 12 with the closing ceremony set for October 18.
The boxers will be getting into action on October 13.
