The Sterling-sponsored Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) tournament at the Queen’s College Badminton Court concludes last night.
On Tuesday night Diquan Naughton was whipped by Narayan Ramdhani in the boys under-11 quarter-finals 4-21, 1-21 while petite five-year-old Aaron White, the youngest participant in that draw, had the bad luck of suffering the “double bagel” losing 21-0, 21-0.
In other matches Jordan Isaacs defeated Jon-Beri Low 21-5 and 21-9 and, in a close contest Zachary White turned back the challenge of Armand Ramdhani winning 21-17 and 21-19.
In the girls’ under-11 quarter-final the Parsram sisters suffered mixed fortunes as Maya Parsram defeated Rebecca Lowe 21-8, 21-10 but five-year-old Ria Parsram went under to Emma Vieira 3-21, 5-21.
In another quarter-final match, Lydia Alphonso defeated Taylor Fernandes, 21-13 and 21-16.
And in the under-11 semi-final Priya Ramdhani defeated a game Maya Parsram 21-6, 21-6 while in the other semi-final Alphonso lost to Emma Vieira 16-21, 23-25.
In the boys’ under-13 first round Ashwyn John lost to Jared Ramnarayan 18-21, 18-21 while Alexander Paul defeated a determined Christopher Shewjattan 22-20, 21-12.
Another Shewjattan, Shane, went down to Matthew Vieira 12-21, 6-21 while Sachin Ramdhani defeated Matthew White 21-17, 21-14 and Amandeep Alvis defeated Isaacs 21-10 and 21-7.
In the boys’ under-13 quarterfinals Narayan Ramdhani whipped Ramnarayan 21-4, 21-6 while Sachin Ramdhani was beaten by Amandeep Alvis 6-21, 7-21.
Stanley Ming was also in the winners’ row defeating Paul 21-10 and 21-15.
And topping off the semi-finals placing was Andrew Peroune who got the better of Matthew Vieira 21-7, 25-23.
And in the girls’ under-13 category Priyanna Ramdhani marched into the final with a 21-2, 21-3 win over Sarfina Baksh. She will meet Lowe, who had an easy semi-final defeating Arianne Chand 21-7 and 21-11.
