Cancer support group, the Periwinkle Club is hosting an anniversary dinner and fashion show on November 1 at the Red House.
According to a press release the programme includes a fashion display titled ‘Cotton Creations’ by designer Sharon Fraites, a Dutch auction with attorney Nigel Hughes, cocktails at 7 pm and dinner at 7.30 pm. Patrons are also likely to receive gate prizes and gifts.
The Club was formed in 2006 “expressly for the purpose of providing a forum for survivors of breast and cervical cancer to meet, share experiences, negotiate services as a group and educate the public about the disease and the predisposing/risk factors.” It has since expanded its focus to include all cancers and has concentrated its efforts on information sharing and counselling patients accessing cancer diagnosis and treatment at the Georgetown hospital. The Club also routinely subsidizes the cost of diagnostic tests and medical treatment for patients who are its members.
The Club said the anniversary programme is for fundraising. Tickets cost $6,000 and the dress code is “elegantly casual.”
