Kings held to draw, Golden Stars blank Plaisance
Defending champions BV/Triumph United held the mighty Victoria Kings to a nil-all draw in their encounter, while Golden Stars inflicted a three-nil defeat on Plaisance when action in the East Coast Demerara Football Association (ECDFA)/ Mackeson Stout Premier league continued at the Plaisance Community Centre ground last Thursday night. In the first game of the double header fixture, former Georgetown Mayor’s Cup and Kashif and Shanghai champions Victoria Kings must be ruing their missed opportunities, as they were held to a goalless draw by the defending champions.
Andrew Holder, Orin Elias and Seon David all missed easy opportunities, with Holder opting to shoot with his left foot instead of his right when presented with an easy opportunity by David, while being alone with BVTU custodian Linden Dennis who like his counterpart Andrew Williams were called upon to effect saves to keep their team in the game.
BVTU also had their share of missed opportunities with national Futsal player Delroy Deen missing an easy one-on-one situation with Williams, and despite the relentless attack being displayed by both teams, sturdy defence work and good goal keeping ensured it was a goalless affair at the final whistle.
In the feature game, Golden Grove’s Golden Stars outplayed their opponents and host Plaisance United to come away victorious by three goals to nil, thanks to the efforts of John Stewart (30th and 34th) and Jason Clement’s 54th minute strikes respectively.Action in the tournament will continue tomorrow afternoon when surprise leaders Buxton United face Ann’s Grove from 14:00hrs, while their star-studded counterparts Bakewell Buxton Stars will face Mahaica Determinators from 16:00hrs at the Buxton playfield.
