Internationally renowned professional bodybuilder Hugh Ross has made good on a promise to the Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GA-BBFF).
The promise was to have Gardner, Guyana’s most decorated medalist at the Central American and Caribbean level, participate at this year’s Muscle Mania Superbody championships.
The tournament is scheduled for October 25 in Brooklyn, New York and will be held at the Kingsborough Community College Per-forming Arts Center .
Ross, who this year hosted the inaugural Hugh Ross Classics Body Building and Fitness competition here had promised to get more exposure for Gardner by assisting him to compete at a major event in the US.
“I selected that event (Muscle Mania Superbody) because it is promoted by one of my parent organisations here in the US and in addition, it is an event in NY which would afford me the advantage of being able to host Sylvan and administer to his final preparations since I live here and would not have to travel interstate had the event been elsewhere.”
Ross stated that the entry requirement for an athlete is that they would have had to win at a regional event before qualifying to enter at the Superbody.
“But that was waived by Mr. Louis Zwick, the head of Muscle Mania, based on my recommendations. During our dialog, he made sure that I made a commitment to compete in the Pro Division at the Muscle Mania World Championship which will be in Las Vegas from November 21-23.”
Subsequently, Mr Zwick personally sent the necessary invitation to Gardner to compete. Gardner has been hard at training to ensure he is in peak condition for competition. He is working out at Buddy’s Gym.
Ross also informed that he had received an invitation to do a guest appearance on the Ivory Coast in Africa around the same time as the Muscle Mania Superbody but had to forego the invitation.
Assisting to overlook Gardner ’s preparation is former GABBFF President and Guyana ’s most experienced Body Building Judge, George Marshall.
Current President Frank Tucker has also been approached to assist with a view of critiquing Gardner ’s progress on a weekly basis prior to his departure.
“On his arrival in New York , I will put him through my shredder after which I guarantee he will be ready.” Ross said.
